News from Berlin - The Foundation House of History presents an exhibition in the Culture Brewery, promoting the importance of nonverbal communication in society. The exhibition, which has been open since September 24th, gathers 600 photographs, interactive pieces and media installations, projecting the message that every single expression and symbol can be interpreted differently depending on social, political and cultural background.

Open until April 12th 2015, this exhibition - Language without words - is about how every day different signs are displayed, both consciously and unconsciously, and asks us to contemplate how these signs mean different things to different people and why they have the ability to provoke a range of reactions. It asks us to question which characters have different meanings in different cultures?

Essentially the message is that context is key and thus is an interesting way to explore the different meanings different signs have and also forces us to think about how nonverbal communication is a form of communication and asks us to contemplate the signals we present.

Even in politics symbols are constantly used, for instance Angela Merkel’s infamous Merkel-diamond hand signal, which has been argued as a gesture for open dialogue.

The exhibition is open Tuesday - Sunday from 10.00 to 18.00 and on Thursdays it is open from 10.00 to 20.00. Admission is free, which encourages people to go and investigate how “language without words” is expressed in society today and how this can aid ones understanding of different communities, cultures and people.
