In these extremely hard and challenging times, when most of us are spending the vast majority of our time at home, it requires a great effort to come up with an idea that entertains some of the youngsters, who are mostly affected by boredom, and promotes cultural diversity as well. Fortunately, the Hungarian Embassy came up with an exemplary project that might encourage other embassies to utilize their digital resources for keeping ‘remote cultural diplomacy’ in function.

A video message attached to a public invitation appeared on the Embassy’s Facebook page on the 19th of March. On the footage, H.E. Dr. Péter Györkös, Ambassador of Hungary has accosted the teenagers directly. The competition is open for every Hungarian children and youngster, who live in Berlin or in Brandenburg, and who are under the age of 18. Every competitor can apply alone, in pairs or in smaller groups.

The competition focuses on the artworks itself. There is no specific topic that the applications should be centered around. Drawings, paintings, graphics and photos can all be sent in, and they will be judged, and assorted by a professional jury. Artworks capturing a moment, a discovered opportunity, an adventure or an experience that the submitter lived recently are favored. The selected artworks will become a part of the permanent exhibition at the Embassy, the best ones will receive a reward. The creators of the chosen artistries will have their names and hand prints displayed as well.

The competition is being organized by the joint partnership of the Hungarian Embassy in Berlin, and the Collegium Hungaricum Berlin cultural institute. The deadline for sending in the artworks is the 19th of April.
