The International Museum Day is proclaimed annually by the International Council of Museums ICOM and will take place in 2018 for the 41st time.

The aim of the Day of Action is to draw attention to the thematic variety of the more than 6,500 museums in Germany and the museums worldwide. With their broad spectrum, diverse offerings and innovative ideas, museums make a major contribution to our cultural and social life. As a visitor, you are cordially invited to discover the treasures preserved in the museums and to be inspired by the passionate commitment of the museum staff.

Each year, the Day of Action is under a changing motto, proclaimed by the International Council of Museums ICOM, highlighting the different focuses of museum work, picking up current topics and referring to the thematic variety of our rich museum landscape. For 2018, it will be "Hyperconnected museums: new approaches, new publics". In Germany, we celebrate the Museum Day on 13 May 2018 under the motto:
Network Museum: New ways, new visitors.

In Germany, the International Museum Day is organized by the Deutscher Museumsbund e. V. and implemented in close cooperation with the museum organizations and counseling centers at the federal and state level. The day of action is largely supported by the foundations and institutes of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe.
