For the second year in a row, the Werkstatt der Kulturen will be organising the Gnaoua Festival, giving the stage to the Morrocan diaspora in Berlin.

The Gnaoua Festival is dedicated to the celebration and the promotion of Morrocan culture and particularly the music of the Gnaoua people. It will be presided by Alaa Zouiten, an Oud player whose music draws upon contemporary and traditional influences from different cultures to reinvent and reinterpret this traditional Sub-Saharian musical art.

A procession of musicians and dancers will open the Festival as it is traditionally done for the Gnaoua Festival in Essaouira, which originally inspired the German initiative. It will usher three days of concerts, dances, music workshops and conferences, as well as exhibitions of musical instruments and traditional arts.

The Festival will take place from 15th August to 17th August  in Neukölln, Berlin.
