Last week, Mike Pompeo flew to Berlin to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. There, they discussed cooperation between the U.S. and Germany on matters of international issues.

Pompeo came to Berlin to work out agreements between Germany and the U.S. with regards to the many issues, such as the ongoing violence in Syria and Chinese businesses. Foreign Minister Maas stated, “Many of the challenges we are facing can only be handled in cooperation with our U.S. friends.”

The two state leaders discussed supporting Ukraine and countering Russian aggression. Moreover, Pompeo wished to explain the risks of Chinese cyber espionage and believed an in-person meeting would prove the most fruitful.  The heart of the meetings focused on the ways Germany and the U.S. can work together through dialogue and action to forward their common goals.
