Tired of the Big City? Visit Potsdam!
Potsdam, the capital city of the German federal state of Brandenburg is widely known for its castles and historical buildings which are an important part of the World Heritage Site.

The city is a perfect tourist destination for people, who are spending a lot of time in Berlin and are already tired of the big city traffic, modern architecture and Berlin's attractions. Potsdam was a residence of the Prussian king and the German Kaiser until 1918. Frederick the Great has his summer residence here, in the Sanssouci Palace, which was designed by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff in XVIII century.
The Palace is surrounded by the beautiful park, and is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage, along with all its outbuildings. It was created in order to be a Frederick the Great vacation residence, where he could relax and escape from his everyday duties in Berlin. Even the name of the palace, Sanssouci emphasises this, because in French language it means "without concerns", in other words "carefree". This phrase can also be a description of the whole city of Potsdam, situated so close to Berlin but so far from the big city atmosphere.
Potsdam is a perfect travel destination for people, who want to go back in time and admire historical, baroque architecture. During the summer time it is also amazing place for a cycling tour or some other sport activities. The biggest district of the Potsdam, Babelsberg is well-known not only for its history and parks but also from Babelsberg Studio, the first large – scale movie studio of the world, producing films since 1912. Some of the recent productions are V for Vendetta, Valkyrie, The Grand Budapest Hotel. The studio was collaborating with various artists like Quentin Tarantino, Roman Polański or George Clooney. It is a studio that mixing together tradition and modern technologies and changes artists vision into a reality.
Potsdam city night life is rather dominated by Berlin club scene, which is one of the best in the world, but that is also the reason why Potsdam is so unique – it is not an isolated place but it also has its own identity, calm and historical atmosphere. It may be also a reason why many students choose this city for their living place. It is definitely a place to visit.
