News from Berlin - The House of World Cultures will traditionally host the third Berlin Documentary Forum that will take place from May 29th till June 1st. This is a biennial event dedicated to the interdisciplinary context of production and presentation of different documentaries. Hila Peleg, the founder and artistic director of the Forum, has created a great platform for a critical examination of such documentary practices including the fields of film, photography, art, performance, architecture, art history along with theory.  Born in Tel Aviv, Peleg studied Art History at Goldsmiths University of London. Currently she is a PhD candidate in Curatorial Knowledge/Visual Culture. Peleg organised and co-curated various international projects dealing with artistic practices and culture from the Middle East. Moreover, Peleg has edited a book on the artist Keren Cytter published by Revolver, and co-curated Manifesta 7. Peleg and Franke have co-organised the exhibition "Imaginary Number" at KW Berlin  in 2005 and "Clinic - A Pathology of Gesture" at HAU Berlin in 2006.

The main goal of the BDF 3 is to consider the stories told in the documentaries not only as a simple reflection to the reality we have but rather also as the method to alter and to shape it. “The subject of debate is not primarily the content of stories, but rather what narration, as a practice, actually does in society, in other words, the mechanism of narration. In its third edition the biennial event will address the tradition of narrative realism, and present recent works that redefine both documentary and realism”, the observers commented.

A four-day program of unique live presentations, screenings, and exhibitions will run in multiple forms and formats at the HKW, with new projects by Maria Thereza Alves, Jimmie Durham and Richard Hill, Shaina Anand & Ashok Sukumaran, Michael Baers, Catherine David,Smadar Dreyfus, Harun Farocki, Sylvère Lotringer with Jesse Lerner, Sergio González Rodríguez and Sofia Canales,  and others.
