“Ode to Joy,” the first concert tour of the Federal German youth orchestra was a great success. During his last concert, the orchestra performed in front of 2,000 spectators with the Tunisian-German chorus in the Theatre of El Jem, the third historical Roman theater in the world.

This exceptional journey was obviously a big pleasure to 100 young musicians of the orchestra, aged 14 to 19 years. On the Facebook page of the orchestra, one can find small stories of their trip, but also short videos on a spontaneous musical performance aboard the plane to Tunisia and a flash mob- concert at the hotel in Tunis.

Many Tunisian spectators and some German tourists who used the opportunity to attend a special concert were all excited. In El Jem, the orchestra performed in front of 2,000 spectators who offered a standing ovation. A part of the concert of El Jem was also broadcasted live on the public television.

However, the organizers wanted more than just bringing in a German orchestra to Tunisia: the musicians showed an interest also in Tunisian music.

Their program included works from European classical symphony No. 4 of Bruckner to the symphony No. 9 "Ode to Joy" from Beethoven. In addition, they learned the old Arab-Andalusian folk song "Lamma bada yatathanna" which is also part of the repertoire of the famous Arab singer Fairouz.
