“The Dove Flyer” is an Israeli film by director Nissim Dayan and is based on a novel of the same name by author Eli Amir. S.E Yakov Hadas-Handelsman, the Israeli Ambassador to Germany will hold a welcome greeting before the film is presented.

Exploration of the Iraqi Jewish Experience

The film follows the story of a family living in Iraq in what used to be the oldest Jewish community in the world. The protagonist is Kabi Amari, a 16-year old boy who lives in Baghdad with his family during the 1950s. Not only is the future of Kabi and his family uncertain but each family member also has their own ideas regarding how and where their future lives should be lived. The family lives in a world full of internal contradictions and ambivalent relationships. The film explores the Iraqi Jewish experience of exile and what impact this has had on people today.

A Discussion about Peace and Reconciliation

Following the film screening, a panel discussion will be held. The panel will include Najem Wali, an author from Iraq; Dr Sylke Tempel, a political scientist and journalist and Jörg Rensmann, a member for Scholars for Peace in the Middle East. The panel will explore the themes in this film and particularly how these concepts lend themselves to establishing peace and reconciliation between Arabs and Israelis.

The film presentation will be held tonight, December 2nd, 2014 at 6pm at the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation in Berlin.
