Celebrations for the 25th Anniversary of the Mauer Fall Continue with a Photograph Contest
The Berlin Eurostars hotel, on the occasion of this important event, organized last November a photographic award about Berlin Wall and the changeable city of Berlin.

The jury, which assessed the artistic quality of the work, decided to give the prize to the Italian photographer Dario Laganà and the Spanish artist María León, both resident in Berlin. Thanks to their works, consisting on two triptychs defined by the jury as documents with "great artistic and historical quality", they have received two prizes worth 2,500 and 1,000 euros respectively.
Dario Laganà, the first prize winner, presented to the contest a work consistent in images of the most symbolic buildings in Berlin : the House of World Cultures, the dome of the Frankfurt Gate and the Jewish Museum, joined by another characteristic element of the German capital: the cloudy skies.
This work, which is a part of a project of this Italian artist is entitled "Berlin by the clouds", and tries to show through the cloudy skies the changing environment of the city. As the author says, "I perceive Berlin, not as a city of permanent residence, but as a place to arrive and reinvent and find a new path. Here in Berlin is possible, and clouds, constantly moving, constantly changing, these movements represent people who come to the city, found his soul and his inspirations and one day leave."
Meanwhile, María León, second prize winner, presented a collage consisting in pieces of old postcards of Berlin incorporated into recent photographs of the same location. In artist´s words, she used old postcards and new photographs in order to show how much the city had changed.
The competition, which this year celebrated its first edition, has had the collaboration of the Spanish Embassy in Berlin. The works , selected by the jury formed by Gloria Minguez (cultural attaché of the Embassy of Spain in Berlin), Brigitte Werneburg (Section culture Die Tageszeitung) Kirsten Johannsen (visual artist) and Abigail Lopez (representative of Hotusa Group), will be used to decor Eurostars Berlin hotel.
