South African Opera Singer in L’isola disabitata

Eddie Mofokeng performs at Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg

The South African lyrical baritone, Eddie Mofokeng will be performing in the International Festival of Young Opera Singers near Berlin on 28th April 2019.

The first festival for young opera singers takes places at Grienericksee under the motto “The Distant Beloved”. The inspiring program premiered on Easter Friday and will have one more performance on 28.4.2019. Part of the program will be Joseph Haydn’s last opera “L’isola disabitata”, Azione per musica by Pietro Metastasio, a production of Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, which focuses on the loss and happy reunion with one’s beloved.

Eddie Mofokeng appeared as Betto in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi at the iSING! International Young Artists Festival in Suzhou, China in the summer of 2017. The South African singer was born in Kroonstad Maokeng, 200 kilometers from Johannesburg. He studied at the North West University in South Africa, where he gained is first stage experience in the roles of Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte and Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in 2016, Mofokeng moved to Köln to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz. In 2016 he also joined the International Choral Academy Lübeck.

The final performance will be on 28th April 2019 at 19:00 in Kavalierhaus der Schlossanlage in Rheinsberg.
