Solidarity Network for Cuba holds Successful Annual Conference
The conference was held at the German Communist Party headquarters in EssenFebruary 05th, 2019
On February the 2nd, the Annual Assembly of the Network of Solidarity with Cuba was hosted at the headquarters of the German Communist Party. The conference was led by Yamari Perez, head of the diplomatic office of Cuba in Bonn and Lisset Gonzalez, responsible for promoting solidarity with Cuba as well as 12 solidarity organizations with Cuba.
The discussion was aimed at strengthening the relations between the two countries in spheres of trade, science, education, as well as on social and cultural levels. Special attention was paid to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which is aimed to enhance the energy balance in Europe. In the course of historical reconciliation of Russians and Germans, issues were raised such as the voluntary humanitarian gesture announced by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany regarding the currently living survivors of blockade of Leningrad, as well as a joint project to digitize archival documents of Soviet and German prisoners of war.
Another important focus of the discussion was on analysing the situation in the field of European security and strategic stability, emerging as a result of the US decision to leave the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. Sergey Lavrov additionally drew attention to the need to exert influence on Kiev from his Western colleagues, with emphasis on the strict implementation of the Minsk agreements, the suppression of possible attempts by Ukraine to escalate the conflict in the east of the country.
In conclusion, it was decided that there will be continuous dialogue between Germany and Russia, the ministers are ready for productive work and intensive consultations, including the cooperation in the UN Security Council, where Germany is a non-permanent member for the period 2019-2020.
