Singapore Embassy at Berlin Festival of Lights

International light art contest orchestrated by the Embassy of Singapore in Berlin

As a new edition of the well known Festival of Lights is approaching, for the third year in a row the Embassy of Singapore in Berlin, in collaboration with the Festival of Lights is launching the international light art contest. Artists and graphic designers from around the world are welcomed to submit their artwork until 30th of August.

The 15th Festival of Lights will take place from 11 to 20 October 2019, and will reunite, as each year, fine light art projects and emotional storytelling, artworks that will be projected throughout Berlin. This year festival is connected to the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, having as the main theme “Lights of Freedom”. The festival, that will turn Berlin in the largest open-air gallery in the world, aims to connect people from different cultures, addressing visitors in a universal language, the one of lights.

The main theme of the international contest, orchestrated by the Embassy of Singapore, is “Kaleidoscope”. The optical instrument is used as a metaphor suggesting the beauty of different cultures and the rich diversity of both Berlin and Singapore. Even though each participant has the freedom to give a unique interpretation of the theme, the scope of it is to highlight the beauty and dynamics that are created through cultural exchange. The ten artworks that will be selected by a jury, during the festival will be projected onto the facade of the embassy having the opportunity to be voted by the large public, vote that will determine the final three winners.
