June 9th, 2016- The Romanian Ambassador to Berlin, Emil Hurezeanu, welcomed the Romanian Police Force on a mission to Berlin at the 32nd police department.

Two Romanian police officers will assist the German police force in Berlin in central areas of the city. The objective of the mission is to ensure the prevention of street crime, street deceptions and petty theft. The activity will be carried out in uniform in the central sections of Berlin near Brandenburg Gate at Alexanderplatz.

Romanian policemen in uniform will accompany the German police force. The task primarily includes participating in observation of concrete police measures such as patrols, emergency interventions, and hearings. In particular, the Romanian Police Force will deal with cases involving Romanian citizens as either victims or perpetrators. This is the fourth time the Romanian police sent police officers in uniform to work alongside their German colleagues. The project was initiated in 2013 by the interior ministries of the two countries.

Both the German police force and the general public, which appears pleasantly surprised by the cooperation of the two bodies, appreciate the presence of the Romanian police force in Berlin. The initiative unites the two police forces and creates an internal dialogue between the two countries. Individuals of Romania origin apprehended by the German police accompanied by their Romanian colleagues are also impressed by the strong connection created between the two states.

The collaboration allows for the annual exchange of police operative workers as well as sharing of knowledge and transfer of information on the methods of operation.
