Third Edition of the Spanish Film Festival in Berlin

News from Berlin - Last Saturday, November 1st the Spanisches Filmfest 2014 opened. The third edition of the Spanish Film Festival in Berlin is taking place at the Babylon Theatre, consisting of 22 feature length films, 39 short documentaries and 6 introducing this year. The Festival aims to promote Spanish cinema and to give the public the opportunity to experience diverse cultural riches of Spain from the perspective of visionary filmmakers.

 

The Spanishes Filmfest opened on Saturday evening with the film “10,000 Km” by Carlos Márquez-Marcet, who attended and presented the Premier. The director of the Festival Santiago Gomez Rojas gave a welcome speech to the audience at the opening ceremony, followed by a performance from the Argentinian singer Leandro Uría. After the film screening, the guests enjoyed a selection of delicious Spanish cuisine: cheese, olives, bread, chorizo and fine wine. The film received very positive feedback from the audience.

“10,000Km”, an aspiring candidate for the Oscars, tells the tale of Alex and Sergio who, after being in a relationship for several years, decide to have a child. However Alex, a photographer, is offered an artist residency for a year in Los Angeles. One year distance relationship, two computers and two cities, Barcelona and Los Angeles. Can love survive 10,000 miles apart?

During the week the SFF Berlin will present first screenings of movies, showcasing directors and young actors and new dramatic, narrative and aesthetic trends from the Spanish film industry. This year the organisation also have several new features compared to the previous two editions. The new image of the Filmfest, based on a lynx, is a unique symbol that reflects the visual acuity and ingenuity of film director.
