The “Diplomats for Equality” project, with its headquarters in Vienna, has been implemen-ted across Europe in the past two months, in the different Pride celebrations. The embassy of New Zealand was an integrant part of the one in Berlin.

The “Die Botschaft ist Liebe” also known as “Diplomats for Equality” is a cross-national project involving the different embassies of countries holding the Pride Parade dedicated to fighting against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia in 2019.

In Berlin, the Pride Parade, also known as Christopher Street Day (CSD Berlin) has  had an incredible turnout, with hundreds of thousands of people celebrating equality of rights for queer individuals. The embassy of New Zealand took part to the parade enthusiastically, with participants wearing t-shirts and holding flags to show the support of New Zealand for the parade in Berlin and the other Prides taking place all across the world. The project within the CSD has been an important example of cultural diplomacy here in Berlin, as it has shown the advocation of embassies from all over the world for LGBTQI rights in the EU and beyond it.
