Amb. Darius Jonas Semaška
Darius Jonas Semaška was born on June 8th, 1967 in Vilnius, in the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic (today Lithuania). He is married with two children and has been serving the Republic of Lithuania as Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany since 2017.
In 1985 Semaška began his studies in Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics at the University of Vilnius which he completed in 1992. After his first degree in Lithuania, he began studying Political Science in Ĺrhus, Denmark in 1993. He completed his Masters in Political Science again at the University of Vilnius. Throughout his Masters in Political Science, Semaška worked simultaneously at the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry within the Administration Department. After having completed his studies, he was appointed Department Head for Northern European Relations. In 1997 he worked on the Embassy Council at the Lithuanian Embassy to the United States of America. In 2001 he returned to Lithuania and became the leader of the Foreign Policy Department at the Prime Minister’s office. In 2004 he was appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Hungary with accreditation in the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (today Republic of Northern Macedonia). In 2008 he became the Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the European Union in Brussels and in 2009 he returned to Lithuania to work as Chief Consultant of Foreign Affairs to the Prime Minister. In 2012 he was appointed Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and in 2017 to the Federal Republic of Germany where he still works today.
Semaška speaks Lithuanian, Russian, English, and German.
The Lithuanian Embassy in Berlin is the headquarters of the diplomatic representation of Lithuania in Germany. The embassy building is located in the Charitéstraße 9 in the district center of Berlin Mitte district. Lithuania has Honorary Consulates in Dresden, Erfurt, Essen, Hamburg, Künzelsau, Offenbach am Main and Planegg. Until 1991, the Embassy of Lithuania was located in the Argelanderstraße 108a in the Bonn district Südstadt.
