Indian Embassy Invites Audience for Classical Indian Dance Performance

Katha means story, katthaka in Sanskrit means “he who tells a story”, or “to do with stories”. Originally, the kathak dancer was a storyteller, explaining ancient stories and legends of Hindu mythology in the temples of the Braj region. The performance at the Indian Embassy is divided into four parts. The first part will consist of short compositions and foot percussions in complex rhythmic patterns. This part is culminated in movements that reflect the rapidly sung syllable language of musicians. In the second part, rhythmic dance pieces will be interwoven with poem. The Third part of performance includes a short music solo. Sajjan, the last part, is a presentation of the life-episodes of Krishna.
Kathak Performers
Ioanna Srinivasan, who will be performing, is a highly trained Kathak dancer born and raised in Europe. During her career she has toured Europe, as well as India and Malaysia. She has taken part in festivals like Binda Din Kathak Festival, Theater der Welt and presented Kathak in a radio and television programmes. Ravi Srinivasan will also be taking part in the performance by playing on a tabla, as well as percussion and vocals. Srinivasan was raised in a traditional Brahmin family in Malaysia and is a trained violinist and performance singer. During his musical education, he studied together with the legendary Pandit Kamalesh Maitra. Arun Leander will be responsible for the keyboard and accordion. In 2005 he was a soloist in the musical Les Miserables in the Berlin Theater des Westens. Currently, he is a member of the band Indigo Masala and performs with the Music Ensemble of Benares.
Admission
