From the 6th until the 9th November 2019, Cologne will host the “The Stimmen Afrikas Festival” (Voices of Africa in Germany), which will focus on the theme of “Crossing Borders: Translate – Transpose – Communicate”.

Since the origin, The Stimmen Afrikas Festival has been an occasion to promote and spread African literature throughout the country. Bearing this goal in mind, more than 40 authors and translators will be taking part in the event; among them, Bibi Bakare-Yusuf, “co-founder and publishing director of Cassava Republic Press” in Nigeria, Mukoma wa Ngugi, Zukiswa Wanner, Boubakar Boris Diop, Susan Kiguli, and Paul Bandia.

Not only the meeting will provide a stage to foster audience discussions and workshops, it will also host music performances, lectures and readings, aiming to enhance and strengthen the networking between African and German artists. This edition of the festival will also explore media-political aspects in Africa, raising awareness of their importance.
