On Wednesday August 26th, German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier received his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan for talks in the Federal Foreign Office. In addition to the German-Emirati relations, the talks focused especially on regional issues, such as the situations in Syria and Yemen, as well as the fight against ISIS. H.E. Jumaa Mubarak Al Junaibi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Federal Republic of Germany, and other delegation members participated in the meeting.

The UAE and Germany established bilateral relations since the declaration of the strategic partnership between the two countries in April 2004. The positive developments in all areas, particularly in the political, economic, cultural and security areas, reflect the importance of the UAE to Germany.

The official and unofficial delegations and visits between the two countries often take place, as well as the exchange of views and mutual consultations with regard to regional and international issues. According to the UAE Embassy’s website, both Germany and the UAE are convinced of the importance of their cooperation for the realization of international peace and international security, which are essential prerequisites for economic prosperity in the world.

In May 2010, the President of the UAE Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted in his speech during the visit of German Chancellor Angela Merkel the desire of the UAE to further develop bilateral cooperation between the two countries in all areas. The Chancellor stressed that the UAE, Germany’s first trading partner in the Arab world, is an example of the German-Arab relations.
