Fête des Francophonies was held at the Centre Français in Berlin on Saturday 30th March 2019. It was organized by embassies and representatives of French speaking countries.

This year the festival with the theme “Our Cultures of Solidarity” was co-chaired by the embassies of Burkina Faso and Switzerland. There were people from the 25 member countries of the International Organization of the Francophonie and it had a large number of other visitors. The festival offered an opportunity to discover the diversity of the French-speaking world by attending workshops, concerts and meetings.

Among others, the culture of Burkina Faso was well represented at the festival. The festival introduced visitors to the Burkinabe culture with the cuisine of the country, music and dance performances by Lanaya, a musical group from Berlin, as well as by showing the Burkinabe film Ouaga Saaga.

The Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Germany, H.E. Amb. Simplice Honoré Guibila, invited all the member countries in his opening speech to work for solidarity in order to achieve sustainable development and effectively fight against violent extremism and insecurity in the respective countries. Effective solidarity can be achieved with fair and responsible commitment of member countries in their economic, cultural and political relations.

Radio France Internationale organized a round table discussion moderated by Malik Berkati on the topic of “Solidarity between cultures, what are the preconditions for a solidarity exchange?”

The festival was organized for the 16th time in Berlin.
