The Cultural Center of Spain in Montevideo and the Cervantes Institute in Berlin with the collaboration of the Embassy of Uruguay in Berlin, supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay presented Ghierra MayorLa Onda Expansiva, on the 160 years anniversary of the trading and diplomatic relations between Uruguay and Germany.

Ghierra is an artist who has always had a sense of the beauty of Montevideo, his hometown. He has seen the skepticism of his fellow citizens, who despite his love for the city are also aware of its many deficits; do not appreciate the real value of everything which is around them. The art proposal in a political sense which was held with a great success of public and press during 2015 in Montevideo CCE has now been invited to go across the Atlantic to be presented in a city that is an example of resilience, change and contemporary spirit.

With the slogan "Ghierra Intendente", the artist invents a fictitious political candidacy, gathering under that title to a large group of artists (around 25), including among architects, designers who on the one hand want to make possible a new look to what everyone knows so far, but on the other hand they also want to confront the existing and the real with the desirable.

The already mentioned imaginary campaign leaves the artist in a position to establish an internal relationship between beauty, the deterioration that threats it and the imagination. The artist is looking for an innovative approach that will lead us to question ourselves about the role of architecture and design in our cities, but also think of ourselves as the active members and the proposals of a community.

Berlin, is a city that for many years is immersed in a process of rescuing or restoring buildings. Officials try to activate the potential of the city, after the catastrophes of the past. Occasionally, new concerns appear on the creation of new buildings and how they could be below the desirable stetic. The interest and the sympathy with this impulse will likely link politics with arts.

The exhibition was inaugurated last Tuesday the 7th of June 2016 at the Cervantes Institute in Berlin and will be present until 16th of December this year.
