News from Berlin- From April 29-30th, a conference on the ‘UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its Effect on International Development’ will take place in Berlin.

The convention, which has been ratified by 150 states, will be discussed both in the international and domestic role, with talks from distinguished members of the humanitarian field.

Questions will be asked such as: How is the convention affecting the formulation of development goals on an international and domestic level? What concrete results have resulted from the implementation of inclusive development and what does this mean for people living with mental disabilities and their families? What are the basic practical approaches to achieving success? How can those involved in the counselling sector become internationally active?

A forum, in which lectures and talks will be given and workshops and debates held, will discuss and deal with these issues. Anyone active or interested in the international counselling sector or those involved in state or non-governmental development organisations are warmly invited to join.

The conference begins at 13.00 on Tuesday, April 29th and finishes at 16.00 on Wednesday April 30th. A ticket costs 100.00 euros, including catering but excluding accommodation. Please contact Dr. Susanne Schwalgin with questions, Tel. 030 206411-127, susanne.schwalgin@lebenshilfe.de.
