Climate Change and the Renewal of Cities: A German-Canadian Dialogue

The Embassy of Canada Will Host the 7th Annual Forum to Speak About Solutions for the Climate Change

On the 10th of May at the Embassy of Canada in Berlin the 7th annual Forum @ Kanada Haus will be presented. The event, organized by the Canadian embassy in Berlin and by the German – Canadian Association, will focus on the Climate Change and is named “Climate Change and the Renewal of Cities: A German-Canadian Dialogue”.

The conference aims to examine the measures that cities can take to deal with climate change and ongoing urbanization. During the conference the role of cities facing these challenges will be dealt with and the question of how people can make the urban environment more eco – conscious and more pleasant place to live and what can cities do to contrast the problems posed by continuous urbanization and by the increased demand for energy and living space.  

The conference will be held in English and it will host three speakers who will open the event. The first one is Michael Small, the Executive Director of “Renewable Cities”, a global program of Simon Fraser University’s Centre for Dialogue in Vancouver that wants to support cities through the transition to 100% renewable energy and increased energy efficiency.

The second speaker will be Dr. Vera Rodenhoff, the Head of Division of International Environment and Energy and Urban Development Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety in Germany.

The third speaker will be Dr. Inge Paulini, General Secretary of the German Advisory Council on Global Change.

Following the conference will be a Panel named “Cities and Climate Governance” moderated by Habib Massoud, Counsellor of the Canadian embassy in Germany, Toby Couture, Director of E3 Analytics, Kay Fisher, Project Manager Urbanization in Adelphi, and Michael Woodbridge, Officer, Urban Research, ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability.

To participate to the conference is necessary to apply to it by May 9th.
