News from Berlin – The Chilean band Sol y Lluvia will bring a fusion of rock and folk, coupled with Andean elements, to Berlin on Saturday the 9th of August, to the Tagungszentrum Berlin, Franz-Mehring-Platz 1. Sol y Lluvia was founded by two brothers in the 1970s, Amaro and Charles Labra. They made their band into one of the most popular music groups of Chile and are now coming for an exclusive solo concert to Berlin.

With their poetic lyrics and unique sounds the Labra brothers will provide the Latin music admirers with an unforgettable night. Their music is inspired by the sound of Andean instruments, such as the quena (flute), the charango (string instrument) and simple Bongos (large bass drums) and drums of the Mapuche, the indigenous people of Chile. These instruments are essential for the powerful and earthy rhythms which determine the musical work of the group.

Their lyrics mainly cover topics connected to justice issues in Chile, therefore Sol y Lluvia has long become the voice of the Chilean people as they already started their pursuit for human rights and social justice during the military dictatorship of the country. During the Pinochet regime the artists gave secret concerts at university centers, and gave people hope in dark times with their music, moving between light and shadow - Sun and Rain - Sol y Lluvia.
