This Wednesday sees Britta Böhler introduce her new book ‘Der Brief eines Zauberes’ in the Dutch Embassy in Berlin. Böhler was born in Freiburg and is a lawyer specializing in international law and human rights. Although she was born in Germany, Britta Böhler gained Dutch citizenship and has successfully run for political office. The former member of the Dutch Senate for the Green Left Party has thus been invited to the Embassy as she ideally embodies the relationship between Germany and the Netherlands. Her publication, which is set during the Second World War, details the time that Thomas Mann spent in exile in Switzerland. More specifically, she deals with his position to the German regime at the time, as well as his multi-faceted character. This includes exploring him as a father, a husband and an artist.
