Architect Sander Troos On Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Architect Sander Troos will talk about his experience of the Rio 2016 complex construction

German architect Sander Troos will talk about building the Rio 2016 Olympic Games complex at Lateinamerika-Forum Berlin e.V. He will show sketches of early plans, explain some complications that occurred as well as introduce some other examples of his work.

On August 4, 2016, architect Sander Troos will talk about the Olympic project in Rio de Janeiro. He is head of the Olympic project of the architectural company Gerkan, Marg und Partner (GMP), which worked on two Olympic stadiums, the Tennis Center and the Aquatic Center, for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Sander Troos will discuss the factors that influenced the design and planning process, the challenges his work faced and his personal experience as head of projects. In addition, other projects of the architectural firm, as the three World Cup stadiums will be touched upon.

The history of the project will be shown, from sketches made in 2012 up to the final version, which will be officially opened at the Summer Olympic Games on August 5, 2016. Sander Troos led the project in Brazil from 2010 to 2015. Troos also worked on projects such as the stadium in Manaus for the World Cup 2014 and an application for the World Expo 2020 in São Paulo. After finishing the project in Rio he moved back to Berlin and works now at the office of the GMP on other stadium projects.

The event is hosted jointly by German-Brazilian Society and Latin American Forum Berlin e.V. It will take place on August 4, 2016, from 19:00 to 21:00 at Lateinamerika-Forum Berlin e.V. (Bismarckstr. 101, D-10625 Berlin).
