News from Berlin - The Chief Executive of Air Berlin, Wolfgang Prock-Shauer, released a statement on Wednesday the 14th of May ahead of  its full quarterly report stating that “There is no doubt of the need for fundamental change".

Air Berlin is the second largest airline in Germany, having as main competitor Lufthansa. In Europe in terms of passengers carried, Air Berlin has gained the 7th place.  The airline has made a name for itself by operating an extensive network throughout the Mediterranean region as well as the Madeira Islands, North Africa, Southeast Asia, Caribbean and the Americas.

In this framework, the company, which has recently received a financial boost following a slight first quarter loss, must turn to a more sustainable business plan.  Analysts say Air Berlin needs to set out a clear strategy and business  model if it is to improve its standing in the long term.

"With recent liquidity and equity injected, pressing financing concerns are resolved for now, but a blueprint for sustainable profitability is still not in sight," Commerzbank analyst Johannes Braun wrote in a note previewing the result. Nowadays, sustainable growth and sustainable economy should be the cornerstone of any business plan.
