The Ambassador

Amb. Yakov Hadas-Handelsman

Amb. Yakov Hadas-Handelsman obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Middle East Studies, and holds a Master’s Degree in Near Eastern Studies of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Between 1975 and1983 he served in the Israel Defense Forces. Amb. Hadas-Handelsman speaks Hebrew, English, German, Arabic and Turkish.

Amb. Hadas-Handelsman started his career as a diplomat in 1983, when he entered the Foreign Ministry of Jerusalem. From 1986 to 1989 he worked as a Deputy Chief of Mission in the Embassy of Israel in Ankara, Turkey. In 1989, he was transferred to Vienna and he was the Deputy Chief of the Mission of Israel until 1991. Between 1991 and 1993 he worked in the Syrian Unit of the Center for Political Research and, after that, Amb. Hadas-Handelsman became the counsellor for Political Affairs and the Middle East for the Israeli Embassy in London. Until 2003 Amb. Hadas-Handelsman was the Head of the Israeli trade office in Doha and from 2003 until 2006 he was the ambassador of the Israeli Embassy in Amman. He then began to work as the Deputy Director General and Head of Middle East and the peace process for the Foreign Ministry Jerusalem. In May 2012, Amb. Hadas-Handelsman was named as Israeli Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany.
