For two days visitors will be able to enjoy African live music, food, hand crafted goods, shows and more. However more than just a celebration of African culture, the festival aims to be a forum for the exchange of ideas on critical issues for the African community.

The African Cultural Festival (Afrikanisches Kulturfest) will take place in the Rebstopark, in Frankfurt on the 18th and 19th of June. It will enable visitors to take a glimpse at the African culture, to taste African food and to listen to African music.

Under the motto “Humanity instead of populism”, the African Cultural Festival also intends to be a place of thinking and debate about important matters, especially for the African community living abroad.

For the organizers of the festival, it is impossible to talk about humanity without speaking about the refugees, “the people who escaped have their word to say”. Several workshops will take place to tear down prejudices about the refugees which are currently so frequent in Europe.

Alain Charlemoine, member of the International coalition of Sans-Papiers Migrants, will discuss the life of migrants and their struggles.

Annette Ludwig (No Fragida, Welcome Frankfurt) and Timmo Scherenberg (Hesse Wefugees Advisory) will talk about the European asylum policies, discussing the role of the European powers in the cause of the refugee movements.
