News from Berlin - There is a double objective set for the 2014 edition of the Afriboom business forum. It should offer a networking opportunity for businessmen from Cameroon and Germany and promote technology and knowledge transfer between the two economies.

The convention will be held in Cologne, Munich, Erfurt and Frankfurt from May 5th till May 9th 2014.

It is organized by Afriboom, an organization that lobbies in favour of the creation of privileged trade relationship between Cameroon and Germany.

The Afriboom founder Joseph Nguefack Sonkoué wants the Afriboom convention to become an established platform for trade and technology exchanges between Cameroon and Germany.

Cameroon businessmen should be able to buy machines from German companies and inspire themselves from German companies involved in the same field of activity they are operating in. In Mr Sonkoue’s words this convention would be ‘some sort of a counselling from Germany’. It would also allow Germany to learn more about business opportunities in Cameroon.

Ebenezer Djanga, an executive of the Free Market Foundation of Central Africa, said Germany was a great economic power and welcomed the Afriboom convention as a tremendous opportunity for both economic players.

Some, such as Prof Leopold Lehman from the University of Douala, think that the project which is in its 8th edition still needs to age so that both parties can really benefit from it.

Still, Jacques Fritz Djocki Kingue, an official from the Ministry of the Economy in Cameroon hopes like many of his peers, that the expected knowledge and technology transfer between the two countries will take place and will help Cameroon to reach its full economic potential in the coming years.

In 2012 17 business managers came from Africa to Germany. This year 20 are expected.
