March 27th, 2014
News from Berlin – After the world premiere of the Afghan war film “Zwischen Welten” at the Berlinale the film starts to be screened in cinemas today. Hence, German Foreign Minister Ursula von der Leyen presented the film yesterday at Zoo Palast in Berlin.
The Austrian film director Feo Aladag tells a story about the friendship of a German soldier and a young Afghan interpreter. The soldier – stationed in a small village in Afghanistan – tries to gain the trust of the alliances and of the villages’ inhabitants with the help of the interpreter. However, due to the differences of both cultures and the soldier’s duty to carry out orders, he comes into conflict with his conscience.
According to Ursula von der Leyen, the film is both impressive and depressing and tells a story that should be discussed in Germany more often.
