The first day of the exhibition included both Alexandra Smithyman, Deputy Head of Mission of the New Zealand Embassy in Berlin, Director Laura Thompson and the author of the exposition, Wayne Youle.

The guests of the vernissage were welcomed with New Zealand wine: Villa Maria’s Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, and other refreshments.

The exposition called « 40 Days and 40 Nights, » consists of two poems of 40 lines each, disposed on several framed pictures.

The New Zealand artist of Ngapuhi, Ngati Whakaeke and Ngati Pakeha descent didn’t miss the chance to let their bicultural heritage express through his work. With studies in design and diverse experience in working with collage, painting, mural or sculpture, Youle’s exhibition reflects a fascination with the visual language of popular culture, and a questioning of how history and identity are written.

The exhibition is open to visitors until 10th of August, 2019 at Michael Reid Berlin, Ackerstrasse 163, 10115.
