180 Seconds City is a project developed through mutual collaboration between the Goethe-Institut and the German School of Journalism. The project is divided into four seasons that show different perspectives on the daily lives of citizens from all over the world.

From Berlin to Bogotá, travelling through many more cities besides: a 180 seconds video compiles a huge amount of information from several cities. These seconds of video aim to show what brings people together and what makes us different.

What do people spend their time on? How do they use and share their possessions? How do they see the future? These are some of the questions that the 64 short films have answers to.

The purpose of this 180 seconds project is to bring together young journalists and film-makers so that they can use their abilities to give a face to their cities.

The project is divided into four themes: on April 2015 it opened with the “Space and Time” season, which aimed to show the hidden corners which are fighting to remain despite the transformations that take place within every city over time. In June, the “With One Another - Against One Another” season showed us how city dwellers treat each other and how they deal with the topic of integration. These seasons will be followed by two more: “Sharing and exchanging”, which analyzes the role possessions play in day-to-day life, and “Tomorrow”, where the role of the future is studied.

The collaboration of these two German academic institutions in this projects shows the faith they have in future generations, and also that they are keen too study in depth the connections that exist between countries, and the ways that society faces the same challenges or problems in different cultural contexts.
