MENGI is an operation created and managed by artists in Reykjavik, Iceland. It is simultaneously a venue for concerts, performances, readings and theater, as well as a gallery. Now MENGI is coming to Berlin, and a better place to visit cannot be imagined.

MENGI was opened in Reykjavik on December 11th, 2013. The venue was designed by architect Hrafnhildur Jónsdóttir and designer Elísabet Jónsdóttir. In 2016 MENGI was awarded the Icelandic daily newspaper DV’s prestigious Cultural Prize in the music category.

From the beginning, MENGI has put emphasis on the grassroots scene in the Icelandic art world. For almost three years, it has cultivated an experimental and innovative scene and has been a platform for artists to experiment and grow their work from the first stages to the 'fully formed' versions.

Now, on October 14th 2016, MENGI is coming to Berlin. The MENGI event aims to not only bring musicians and artists to Berlin, but also to show the network that connects Reykjavik with both Berlin and the rest of the world.
During its time in Berlin, MENGI will host diverse art events, release music by some of the nation’s most ambitious musicians and operate as an art store.

MENGI focuses on experimental art, be it music, installation, theater, spoken word, visual art or any other interesting form of performance. The artists who operate MENGI have a particularly good eye for experimental and innovative art, regardless of genre.

In addition to concerts, performances and films by the likes of Olof Arnalds , Hildur Guðnadóttir and Saumur, the Berlin event will include an exhibition presenting a retrospective of MENGI, revealing the artistic relations between Reykjavík and Berlin.

Books, albums and art published by MENGI can also be purchased at the event.
