How New Zealand Prepares for Brexit
The future of international relations between New Zealand, UK and EU

The United Kingdom officially leaves the European Union on 29th of March 2019. In case of a no-deal Brexit, there will be serious implications for New Zealand and its citizens.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand released an information guide on Brexit and what it means for New Zealanders. Since New Zealand has strong ties with both the UK and the EU, depending on the outcome of the negotiations the implications for citizens will differ. So far, the provisional agreements include a transition period that lasts until 2020. However, in a situation of “no-deal” Brexit, there will not be a transition period.
The government of New Zealand is working on various scenarios on the consequences of different Brexit outcomes. Apart from that, on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of NZ there is a list of technical notes from the governments of both countries, and the EU.
However, New Zealand will remain a close and fundamental partner of the UK. The government of New Zealand stays attentive to negotiations and will continue the discussions on Free Trade Agreement after Brexit.
