Germany’s Support for a Pro-European Republic of Moldova

Prime Minister Maia Sandu held a meeting with the Moldovan diaspora at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Berlin after meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel

n July 16, the newly appointed Prime Minister Maia Sandu paid an official visit to Berlin at the invitation of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss bilateral relations as well as European and regional issues.

After expressing Germany’s support in carrying out pro-European, democratic and future-oriented reforms in Republic of Moldova, Chancellor Angela Merkel received Maia Sandu, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, with military honors at the Federal Chancellery at 12:30 pm.

According to the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Berlin, H.E. Amb. Oleg Serebrian, Prime Minister Maia Sandu's visit to Berlin is of great significance and reiterates Germany's support for Republic of Moldova.

"Every visit brings something new to the cooperation between countries, but the visit has a strong symbolic load, since, after many years, dialogue has been taken on a very high level with Germany and that's a very good thing" said H.E. Amb. Oleg Serebrian.

The program of the visit included several other high-level meetings like the one with the Bundestag President Wolfgang Schäuble, and the one with the European Affairs Minister Michael Roth.

On the same day at 8pm, Maia Sandu held a meeting with representatives of the Moldovan community from the FRG at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Federal Republic of Germany (Gotlandstrasse 16, 10439 Berlin).
