Heiko Maas invited government representatives from NATO countries, EU member states, Russia, China, India, Japan and Brazil to Berlin to discuss about new technologies and their impact on peace and security.

Since the Cold war, the world has changed dramatically. New weapons technologies and shifts in the global balance of power provoke thoughts weather we are in the control of technology or weather it controls us. The conference “Capturing Technology. Rethinking Arms Control” in Berlin included panel discussions and working sessions on the threads posed by new weapon technologies. The aim of the conference was to generate new momentum for the international debate on disarmament and arms control.

Heiko Maas emphasized common security interest by saying “We won’t get anywhere in a multipolar world with the logic of the Cold War”, “We must adjust the rules that we have to the realities of today”, Maas stated on Friday 15th of March in Berlin.
