German Film Prize to Be Held in Berlin

News from Berlin - The largest film prize in Germany, the “Deutscher Filmpreis” will take place in Berlin on Friday May 9th. Every spring, the German film award “Lola” is handed over to Germany’s best movie during a gala event. The LOLA includes over 2 million euros in award money (including the nomination premiums) and is the largest German Culture Prize. This year the LOLA is being awarded by State Minister Monika Grütters, who is also the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.

The winners of the German Film Awards have been chosen by members of the German Film Academy since 2006. Professional filmmakers who have distinguished themselves through their continuous creative work in Germany are evaluated in a three-stage selection process.The categories are the following: Best Children's Film, Best Documentary, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography/Image Design, Best Editing, Best Music, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup, Best Sound Editing and the Audience Award.
