The European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW) is an initiative to facilitate the organization of activities that promote sustainable development and make events visible on a common platform.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which has adopted at the UN Sustainability Summit of Heads of State and Government, is a milestone in international cooperation. The adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) marks the first time that the international community agreed on a universal catalogue of fixed targets covering all three dimensions of sustainability. These targets will play a key role in international cooperation in core policy in the next decades.

The European Sustainable Development Week contributes to this ambitious, universal and transformative agenda by promoting the organization of bottom-up activities that have a thematic link to the agenda such as climate change or gender equality. Through the events people can become part of a large European community of event organizers for initiatives on sustainable development for the good of everyone. The ESDW will take place from 30 May until 5 June. The Nordic Embassies in Berlin take part on the Week with an event Healthy Oceans on 3rd of June at Felleshus.

Healthy oceans and seas are vital to the wellbeing of the planet and to the economic and social prosperity of coastal states such as the Nordic countries. Therefore, Agenda 2030 and Global Goal #14, Life below Water, will form the central theme of the event at the Nordic Embassies. Experts from the Nordic countries want to discuss sustainable utilization of the oceans and seas with international cooperation and transaction.
