Minister of Foreign Affairs

Sameh Hassan Shoukry was born on October 20, 1952. He is married and has two sons.

He has developed a remarkably rich and diverse career in the diplomatic field. He has been Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt since 2014. Previously, he served as Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United States of America between 2008-2012 and as Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva from 2005 until 2008.

Before becoming an Assistant Foreign Minister in 2003, he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt to Austria, Permanent Representative of A.R.E. to the International Organizations in Vienna, Governor of Egypt on the Board of Governors of the IAEA, Chairman of the Group of 77 & China to the International Organizations in Vienna, Head of Delegation for the Negotiations on the International Treaty to Combat Transnational Organized Crime between 1999-2003.

From 1976 until 1999 he filled a wide variety of professional roles. He was Secretary for Information and follow-up, Member of the Delegation of Egypt to the NPT Review and Extension Conference, Director of the United States and Canada Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations, Counselor of the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, First Secretary at the Embassy of Egypt in Buenos Aires, Second Secretary, of the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Third Secretary at the Embassy of Egypt in London, Attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt.
Before starting his professional career, he earned his degree in Law at Ein Shams University in Cairo.
