Daimler AG is a multinational German company in the automotive field which is headquartered in Stuttgart. The well known German car manufacturers Mercedes-Benz is a division of Daimler AG. As a multinational company, supporting the arts and culture is an important aspect of the company’s social responsibility. One of the ways in which this is done is through the Daimler Art Collection which has been running since 1977 and now has a huge portfolio with over 2,600 works produced by approximately 700 artists from all over the world.

In order to actively engage in cultural promotion, the Daimler Collection constantly strives to expand the number of works in it’s collection. Their philosophy is that only with a vibrant and integrated collection that includes the latest international developments within it can it promote culture successfully. As well as promoting international artists, the Daimler Collection pays special attention to the art scene at home in Germany and especially so in the cities where it’s galleries are located; Stuttgart and Berlin. In these cities, they seek to discover young talents breaking onto the art scene and help them to make progress with their careers. The Daimler Art Collection is part of Daimler AG’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program which also covers other areas such as nature conservation, traffic safety, education, science funding and other social projects.

The Daimler Art Collection commits itself to showcasing work which is the result of “research-based artistic thinking”, this is the kind of work it promotes. The Daimler Art Collection has two gallery spaces located in Stuttgart and in Berlin. The exhibition space in Berlin has been open now for 17 years and has during this period showcased many different exhibitions.

The gallery has a central location in Haus Huth at Potsdamer Platz where the current exhibition on display is On Curbstone Jewels and Cobblestones. This exhibition is running until 10th April 2016 and is part of a series showcasing new acquisitions of Chinese and international art. Since 2013, The Daimler Art Collection has been working to expand its works from international artists and build it’s profile abroad. In the past three years, the group have acquired more than 40 works of art by 20 different Chinese artists. Focus has been placed on works by young artists from Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong who work in the field of abstract and conceptual designs.
