Ezéchiel Nibigira studied business at the private Hope Africa University in Bujumbura, Burundi. In 2010 he worked on the presidential campaign of the winning candidate Pierre Nkurunziza. His start working directly in the government was as the leader of customs, imports, and exports for Burundi. He later became the Ambassador of Burundi to Kenya and in 2015 was given the title of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Nibigira is the leader of the youth wing of the ruling political party in Burundi ‘National Council for the Defense of Democracy-forces for the Defense of Democracy’. He gave a speech at the United Nations in New York in September 2018 an made the argument that the unilateral sanctions against Burundi from the European Union needed to be repealed as the situation in Burundi had improved regarding safety and democratic values.
