News from Berlin - With the World Cup on, all eyes are on the colorful dynamic culture of Brazil. However, the biggest samba festival outside Brazil is at a place you would never think of – the small Medieval town of Coburg in Bavaria, Germany. Every year since 1992, the town hosts the International Samba Festival which last year attracted around 200 000 visitors.

The small town transforms into the “European capital of samba” for three days and will be held from 11th to 13th of July this year. The festival procession descends on the ancient fortress town gathering musicians, dancers, drummers from all over Europe and the world.

The party starts at 11:00 on Saturday morning with performances lasting until midnight as groups take turns on eight different stages. Then the samba night begins at the Kongresshaus Rosengarten venue.

On Sunday the party continues with a more quiet celebration at the Marktplatz square before the samba parade starts at 14:00 and proceeds through the town center. This year the program includes prominences such as the Samba Queen from Brazil, Andre Rio and football artists such as Miriam Willems and Sebastian Heller, who will exhibit their phenomenal skills with a ball.
