A Musical Celebration of the New Slovak Presidency of the EU Commission
The Slovak Embassy in Berlin and Berlin City Hall collaborated to host a piano recital, marking the start of a new chapter for Slovakia in Europe

The Embassy of Slovakia in Berlin and the Slovak Cultural Institute in Berlin have organised a series of cultural events to celebrate the first Slovak presidency of the Council of the European Union. One of these was solemn piano recital held in Berlin city hall.
Before the recital, H. E. Amb. Peter Lizák outlined the main goals of Slovak presidency. Hella Dunger-Löper, State Secretary and Representative of the Land of Berlin to the Federal Government with Responsibility for European Affairs, made a speech on behalf of Berlin.
The performers were one of the most highly renowned piano duos from Slovakia, Nora and Miki Skuta. The pieces the duo played were originally composed for two pianos by Johann Sebastian Bach, Juraj Beneš and Igor Stravinsky. The logic behind choosing these particular piano pieces was to pay tribute to the host country, Germany, and to showcase Slovak music.
Among the guests were ambassadors, representatives of the diplomatic corps and government posts, partners, fellow-countrymen and members of the general public.
The recital is part of a wider series of cultural initiatives from the Slovak embassy in Berlin to draw attention to the Slovak presidency of the Council of the European Union. It marked the official beginning of the Slovak presidency in Germany and tied in with “Deutscher Himmel – slowakische Sterne” , which celebrates the Year of Slovakian Music.
Other events to publicise the Slovak presidency include the diplomatic tennis match between diplomats in Berlin, two design exhibitions, “Dialogues SK”, and an exhibition focused on jewellery, “Pass It On”. There is much more to come in this series of events and we will inform you about upcoming events.
